Doc u ments
I fell 80 feet in the dark of a cave. Landing on rock, I cracked my back and split my pelvis open. They hauled me out and flew by helicopter to the EER where they drilled and bolted me back together. Morphine dripped in me night and day while the Lord watched from his cross above the door and I looked out the window on the lower alps.
Each day the Docs would come in to my hospital room and stand just inside the door huddled around a set of files on wheels. They would look at me and chat in German, sometimes asking me a question. "Any complaints"? they might say. And I would answer, "just glad to be a live". "Oh, and when can I play tennis?"

One of my favorites so far! Touching and it made me smile.
